• Extensive commercial experience with Python development

• Proven experience in software architecture and system design
• Experience leading engineering teams or agile squads
• Ability to make sound technical decisions in complex environments
• Experience delivering secure, scalable and resilient services
• Strong understanding of modern engineering practices
• Excellent stakeholder communication skills
• Experience mentoring and supporting other developers
• 8+ years experience preferred
• Government digital delivery experience
• Experience within regulated or secure environments
• Public sector, defence or large-scale enterprise experience
• Cloud-based platforms and integrated digital services experience
• Understanding of accessibility and digital service standards

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership across agile engineering teams
• Design and deliver scalable solutions using Python and Django
• Lead technical design, architecture and solution discussions
• Guide engineering practices, coding standards and quality assurance
• Support delivery across multiple technical workstreams
• Mentor and coach developers
• Collaborate with product, design, analysis and delivery teams
• Ensure services are secure, reliable and maintainable
• Support continuous improvement of engineering processes and tooling

We are delivering a high-profile digital transformation programme focused on secure and resilient technology solutions. This is a 12-month contract with hybrid working at approximately 40% office attendance, based across London, Manchester, Birmingham, or Cardiff. The role is inside IR35, offers up to £720 per day via umbrella, and requires SC Clearance. We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead who will remain hands-on while helping shape technical decisions, support multidisciplinary teams, and drive engineering excellence across complex digital services.
