Job Description

Salary: £36,000 - 67,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We need strong experience building and supporting scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and API-first architectures.
  • We need proven expertise deploying and operating cloud-native applications in AWS and EKS, including containerisation, observability, resilience, and CI/CD practices.
  • We need experience leading end-to-end engineering delivery, making architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and driving operational excellence across complex enterprise platforms.
  • We value Oracle database expertise, including schema design, performance tuning, and data integration.
  • We value consumer billing platform experience within telecoms or other large-scale enterprise environments.
  • We value NetCracker RBM knowledge and associated billing platform integrations.
  • We value event-driven architecture and domain-driven design experience.
  • We value CI/CD automation and DevOps tooling expertise.
  • We value production support and incident management experience, including root cause analysis and resilience planning.
  • We value cross-functional stakeholder management across Product, Architecture, Security, QA, and Operations teams.
  • We value familiarity with AI technologies within software engineering and operational environments.
Responsibilities:
  • We will lead the rollout of new technology across consumer billing platforms, ensuring changes are delivered safely, predictably, and with minimal service disruption.
  • We will drive end-to-end delivery from solution design through build, test, deployment, and production support for billing services.
  • We will establish engineering standards, release readiness, and delivery controls that support resilient, high-quality platform change.
  • We will design and evolve cloud-native billing solutions using microservices architecture, API-first design, and scalable integration patterns.
  • We will make key technical decisions across Java/Spring Boot services, AWS-hosted workloads, EKS deployment models, and Oracle DB data design.
  • We will ensure solutions are secure, scalable, supportable, and aligned to enterprise architecture and billing domain requirements.
  • We will create and enhance new microservices and backend capabilities using Java and Spring Boot to support billing journeys, integrations, and platform modernisation.
  • We will review, optimise, and troubleshoot application code, service interactions, container deployments, and database access across the billing estate.
  • We will support technical discovery for existing and brownfield billing applications to identify dependency, migration, and simplification opportunities.
  • We will ensure billing services are deployed and operated effectively in AWS and EKS, with strong observability, logging, alerting, and operational controls.
  • We will lead production readiness, resilience planning, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis for customer and revenue-impacting incidents.
  • We will improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and engineering practices to accelerate safe and repeatable change.
  • We will guide Oracle DB usage, data access patterns, and schema considerations to ensure performance, integrity, and traceability across billing solutions.
  • We will work with dependent systems and teams to maintain reliable billing flows, reconciliations, and operational controls across integrated services.
  • We will provide technical leadership to engineers, setting direction through design reviews, code reviews, and architectural guidance.
  • We will mentor team members in microservices engineering, Java/Spring Boot development, AWS/EKS operations, Oracle DB integration, and modern engineering practice.
  • We will drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across delivery teams.
  • We will collaborate with Product, Architecture, Security, QA, Operations, and dependent delivery teams to align technical change to business priorities.
  • We will communicate delivery plans, technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to support informed decision-making across stakeholders.
