Requirements:

• Degree-level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline or another numerate subject, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable experience with network communication systems and architectures, especially LAN/WAN architectures and network security associated with SISS and control systems/SCADA networks in a safety-related environment.
• Established knowledge of the systems engineering life cycle.
• Demonstrable experience working to industry quality and safety standards.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate technical solutions at all levels.
• Ability to work to tight timescales.
• Cisco certified, or working at CCNP level or above, with extensive applicable experience.
• Desirable: Chartered Engineer status.
• Desirable: IRSE Licence.
• Desirable: Experience with at least one of these technologies: Software Defined Networking, virtualisation, data centre, or network automation.
• Desirable: Experience with at least one of these security services: next-generation firewalls, SIEM, Threat Intelligence, or IAM.
• Desirable: Experience in UK railway operational telecoms design, standards, and delivery processes.
• Desirable: Demonstrable knowledge of railway systems, including SCADA, signalling, radio, M&E, Station Information and Security Systems, or electronic security.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership for the team and its allocated tasks, delivering safety through design and to programme, ensuring required governance is applied and approving as responsible engineer where allocated.
• Ensure successful delivery of network designs and bids, including network architectural design description documents, network architecture diagrams, IP addressing and subnetting designs, cable schedules, diversity plans, and configurations.
• Ensure the teams delivery incorporates required specifications and network security architecture and designs.
• Manage customer requirements and produce system requirements and proposals.
• Present network design architecture to project teams and customers.
• Provide leadership, technical support, and mentorship to team members.
• Develop associated test specifications and support onsite build and testing, integration, and system testing.
• Lead and define operational telecommunication designs and solutions for railway projects, including station systems, SCADA systems, and backbone communications and transmission networks.
• Build and maintain communication links with customers telecoms specialists and delivery partners, and collaborate with systems engineering, project delivery, research and development, and management teams on delivery strategy.
• Lead and support network architects and entry-level team members in their career development and progression.

We are offering an opportunity to join our Rail Infrastructure CIS business as a Senior Network Architect, also described as a Senior Network Design Engineer and Team Leader. We operate across rail, road, and logistics, aiming to connect transportation systems to move people and goods efficiently. Our Rail Infrastructure business provides signalling, control, communications, and electrification systems for mainline, regional, metro, and light rail applications. Within CIS, we deliver telecommunications and cybersecurity solutions for the digital railway across the full project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through implementation, testing, installation, and commissioning. The role requires attendance at our Ashby-de-la-Zouch office and regional sites, including York, Manchester, Glasgow, Chippenham, and Croydon.
