Senior Mission System Architect – Network & Data Communications

Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• A degree in Engineering or a related subject
• Full membership of an appropriate engineering institution and Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards it
• Extensive experience in defence networking, communications, and system-of-systems architecture
• Strong expertise in data architectures, cyber security, and digital engineering

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and assurance of network-centric mission system architectures for complex maritime environments
• Define secure, resilient, and interoperable communications and data strategies
• Collaborate with customers, programmes, suppliers, and industry partners to influence architectural direction
• Establish technical standards and ensure future-ready solutions align with operational requirements
• Lead network and data communications architecture strategy
• Define resilient, secure, and interoperable communications and networking solutions
• Establish data models, protocols, and integration standards
• Embed cyber security and assurance within architectural designs
• Champion open architectures, interfaces, and digital engineering methodologies
• Influence customers and stakeholders on network-enabled capability development

We are BAE Systems, and this role is part of our Naval Ships Combat Systems business within a dynamic and rapidly expanding team of system architects shaping the future of maritime mission systems. The role is based in Portsmouth (Broad Oak), Frimley, Filton, or Dorchester, with a hybrid working pattern of 3 days on site, and routine travel to other southern BAE sites in the UK and occasionally internationally.
