Senior Engineering Lead

Salary: £66,000 - 106,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience leading customer-facing engineering teams building apps or websites that make complex problems feel simple.
• Strong technical background with experience in backend and client engineering.
• Leadership experience, including hiring, performance management, and coaching.
• Product mindset with the ability to connect technical work to business goals and customer value.
• Strategic thinking, with the ability to move between tactical code review and 12-month technical planning.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex technical decisions to non-technical partners and build alignment.
• Experience building AI Assistants or other AI-powered experiences is nice to have.
• Experience in payments, fintech, or another global regulated product environment is nice to have.
• Experience building high-throughput APIs for enterprise or platform clients is nice to have.
• Experience scaling a domain from one team into a multi-team organisation is nice to have.

Responsibilities:

• Own the Send journey end to end and shape the experience at global scale.
• Work with Product, Design, and Analytics to define strategy, roadmap, and customer priorities.
• Decide how to solve customer problems while balancing speed, security, and long-term scale.
• Set the technical direction for Send and lead architectural decisions.
• Address technical debt and improve reliability, security, and operational health.
• Set clear outcomes, priorities, and ownership to enable fast, reliable delivery.
• Lead two cross-functional teams through Engineering Leads and grow the group further over time.
• Coach Engineering Leads and support the career growth, performance, and wellbeing of the engineers they lead.
• Work closely with Global Product, Regional, and other functions to align the roadmap with Wises wider strategy.
