Scala Engineer

Requirements:

• Strong commercial experience with Scala
• Experience developing applications using the Play Framework
• Knowledge of Play 2.8 to Play 3.0 migrations and upgrades
• Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and web applications
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams
• Ability to work in complex public sector or enterprise environments
• AWS-hosted application development
• Experience within government or highly regulated environments
• CI/CD and modern software engineering practices
• Front-end development experience

Responsibilities:

• Deliver new features and enhancements using Scala and the Play Framework
• Support the migration from Play 2.8 to Play 3.0
• Implement Design System standards across customer-facing services
• Develop and maintain APIs and web applications hosted on AWS
• Collaborate with architects, developers, testers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions

We are recruiting a Scala Engineer for a local client on a contract of six months or longer, with remote working. The rate is £500–£600 per day inside IR35, depending on experience level. This hands-on software engineering role focuses on Scala development, upgrading applications from Play Framework 2.8 to Play 3.0, modernising services, and implementing the Design System across customer-facing portals. The applications are hosted on AWS. We act as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and an employment business for supplying temporary workers.
