Java Developer Team Lead
Job Description
Salary: £149,175 - 149,175 per year
Requirements:- We require experience with Java 11 and Spring Boot microservices.
- We require experience with Spring Security and OAuth2.
- We require experience with JavaScript UI frameworks, specifically React.
- We require experience with OpenShift.
- We require experience with RabbitMQ.
- We require experience with Elasticsearch.
- We require experience with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices, including deployment pipelines, Jenkins, and Docker.
- We require experience technically leading a high-performing, cross-functional development team.
- We require experience delivering high-quality software collaboratively in high-performing, cross-functional development teams.
- We require experience developing within Digital First or GDS quality standards.
- We require experience using Test Driven Development (TDD) and Pair Programming.
- We require experience working in Agile delivery models.
- We would prefer experience with AWS Lambda, S3, CloudFormation, Aurora/Postgres, API Gateway, and CDK.
- We would prefer experience with Python 2.7/3.x.
- We would prefer experience with TypeScript.
- We provide hands-on technical leadership to an agile development team.
- We act as a conduit between the development team and the Architecture Steering Group.
- We help define and refine best practices, standards, and architectural principles.
- We lead the development and support of technical solutions that enhance the application pipeline and improve automation rates for Dispositions, Standard Securities, Discharges, and Combos.
- We enhance the Settle tooling to support processing of partial dropouts from our automated flows.
- We continue development of Settle UI and settle services to manage additional deed types and functionality, reducing reliance on legacy LRS.
- We lead and help develop a Self Guided Web App for settling deed types requiring changes to A, B, C, or D sections.
- We support the design and introduction of functionality based on the Self Guided Web App to allow settling of FRs.
- We improve the resilience of our automation pipeline.
- We support the move from on-prem hosted databases to cloud-managed solutions.
- We help manage, maintain, and keep our services current, including Java upgrades to the latest LTS version when possible, RabbitMQ upgrades, and Spring Boot currency.

We are a public sector organisation based in Edinburgh, offering an initial 6-month contract with potential extensions at a rate of up to £585/day outside of IR35, depending on experience. The role is mostly remote, with occasional visits to our Edinburgh office. We are looking for an experienced software engineer to provide technical leadership within an agile team and to work closely with our Architecture Steering Group to shape best practices and architectural direction.
