Job Description

Salary: £31,500 - 59,500 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a Bachelors or Masters degree, or equivalent hands-on experience, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Maths/Physics, or a related field.
  • We require 1–3 years of practical coding experience through internships, junior roles, university projects, open-source work, or personal projects.
  • We require experience building end-to-end applications or prototypes, covering both backend and basic frontend components.
  • We require working knowledge of at least one backend stack such as Python, Rust, Java, Node.js, or C, and a willingness to learn new tools as needed.
  • We require familiarity with REST APIs, basic database concepts, and software engineering fundamentals such as testing, debugging, modular design, and incremental delivery.
  • We require comfort using Git and common team workflows such as branches, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • We require experience using AI-assisted development tools, with an understanding that generated code must be reviewed and validated.
  • We require exposure to containers such as Docker, Podman, or Apptainer, and at least one cloud platform such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • We require initial experience with edge and autonomous deployments, such as software deployed to constrained devices, robots, drones, gateways, or on-prem edge servers, with awareness of reliability and connectivity.
  • We require the ability to work in ambiguous problem spaces, ask good questions, learn quickly, and communicate clearly in English, with willingness to travel occasionally for workshops, demos, and prototype validation.
Responsibilities:
  • We support the build of full-stack prototypes by implementing and testing frontend, backend, APIs, and basic data integrations under guidance.
  • We help turn product ideas into small, testable demos by contributing to minimum-viable implementations and iterating quickly.
  • We develop and maintain simple, well-documented REST APIs and integrations, including event-driven patterns when needed, for internal and customer-facing prototype environments.
  • We use AI-assisted coding tools effectively and responsibly, while learning to validate generated code for correctness, security, quality, and IP compliance with support from senior engineers.
  • We improve reliability and demo readiness by fixing bugs, adding basic tests, and ensuring prototypes can be set up and reproduced by others.
  • We apply baseline security best practices such as secrets handling, dependency hygiene, access control awareness, and safe data handling following team standards.
  • We troubleshoot prototype applications using logs and basic observability tools, and we escalate issues early with clear context.
  • We document our work clearly, including setup steps, API notes, known limitations, and assumptions, to help teammates and future reuse.
  • We collaborate with cross-functional teammates and participate in team practices such as PR reviews while building confidence in providing feedback.
  • We contribute small reusable components and templates and grow our knowledge of industrial software topics over time.
