Data Scientist, Private Banking & Wealth Management

Salary: £55,000 - 90,000 per year

Requirements:

• Evidence of project implementation and work experience in a data-analysis-related field as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• An undergraduate or masters degree in a quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with statistical software, database languages, big data technologies, cloud environments, and machine learning on large data sets.
• Experience developing and managing the full model development life cycle for machine learning and AI products, from concept to production.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership, self-direction, and a willingness to teach others and learn new techniques.
• Ability to deliver complex technical solutions aligned with business objectives and explain methodologies and outcomes accessibly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of statistical models, including LASSO, Ridge, and Elastic Net, and their use in financial product pricing strategies; simulation techniques; and core concepts of deep learning and Bayesian statistics.
• Expertise in developing generative AI and agentic AI chatbot tools, and understanding of workflows and methods for evaluating and monitoring performance at scale.
• Experience managing machine learning and AI models in production, including CI/CD, DevOps, and model monitoring, with awareness of risk management and governance.
• Experience with cloud technology such as AWS, and fluency in Python and SQL.
• Ability to self-manage, take initiative, and work proactively.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to the audience.

Responsibilities:

• Drive and embed the design and implementation of data science tools and methods to use our data to develop customer solutions.
• Act as a subject matter expert, identify advanced data and analytics opportunities, and communicate them through data visualisation.
• Understand business stakeholders needs, build relationships, form hypotheses, and identify data and analytics solutions that support those needs and our business strategy.
• Track emerging data science trends and tools, and share updates within and beyond the team.
• Apply statistical, mathematical, machine-learning, and software engineering skills to assess possible solutions, techniques, and algorithms.
• Implement ethically sound models end to end, applying software engineering and product development principles to complex business problems.
• Work with and lead direct reports and wider multidisciplinary teams in an Agile environment to achieve project and Scrum outcomes.
• Work with business stakeholders to define questions, problems, and opportunities that advanced analytics can address.
• Select, build, train, and test complex machine learning models, considering model valuation, risk, governance, and ethics as we implement and scale them.

We offer hybrid working, with some work from home and at least two days a week in our Edinburgh or London office.
