Senior Software Engineer - Core (Remote)

Salary: £87,000 - 87,000 per year

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Advanced proficiency in C#/.NET and experience designing and implementing large-scale, complex systems
• In-depth understanding of architectural principles and patterns for distributed systems, including microservices and event-driven architecture using Kafka
• Skills in resilience mechanisms and performance tuning to ensure system stability and efficiency at scale
• Proficiency managing cloud infrastructure and services, such as AWS and Kubernetes/EKS, and applying DevOps practices using CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Octopus Deploy, and Terraform
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills, including the ability to guide technical efforts across teams and align them with business objectives

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and architecture of complex systems and influence technical direction and strategy for the Core team
• Own delivery of large-scale features and projects, coordinating across teams and aligning work with business objectives
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership, fostering team expertise and continuous improvement
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to shape requirements and make technical decisions that balance quality, performance, and timelines
• Ensure implementation of high-quality, resilient, and scalable distributed systems
• Lead troubleshooting and incident management, resolving critical production issues and improving reliability
• Improve development practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and test automation
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives and ensure consistency and integration between services and platforms
• Assess emerging technologies, tools, and techniques to enhance team capabilities
• Own and continuously optimize the teams delivery pipeline, code quality, testing standards, and deployment practices
• Use Claude Code and GitHub Copilot in daily work and participate in hands-on AI training
• Participate in on-call duties, with responsibilities based on the assigned team and area of expertise

This Senior Software Engineer role is on our Core team within Order Engineering, which owns platform capabilities including baskets, orders, checkout, promotions, and capacity management. Our roots are in New York City, and we are investing in Belfast and Northern Ireland as a long-term hub with local leadership and a team community. The role is fully remote within Northern Ireland, and the team is led by an Engineering Manager based there.
