Job Description

Salary: £51,000 - 91,000 per year

Requirements:
  • 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a data-heavy backend role, with production ownership of pipelines others depend on
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing, reading, and evaluating the performance of non-trivial analytical queries
  • Hands-on experience building and operating data pipelines with an orchestration framework; Dagster or Airflow is highly desired, while experience with Prefect, dbt, or comparable tools is relevant
  • Strong Python skills, or fluency in another language used for data work
  • Experience with a cloud data warehouse or analytical store such as BigQuery, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or Redshift
  • Experience integrating third-party REST APIs, including handling pagination, rate limits, partial failures, late-arriving and restated data, and inaccurate vendor documentation
  • A strong instinct for data correctness, including reconciling totals, questioning plausible-looking numbers, and building assertions
  • An AI-augmented working style, with experience using AI tools across the engineering workflow and explaining their practical value
  • Experience developing solutions in the cloud and/or using cloud services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Self-organized, goal-oriented, self-motivated, confident, thorough, and tenacious
  • Bonus: Experience with cloud or SaaS billing data, such as AWS/GCP/Azure cost and usage exports, marketplace billing, or the FOCUS specification
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Go
  • Bonus: Experience with systems requiring financial or audit-grade correctness, such as invoicing, metering, revenue reconciliation, or billing engines
  • Bonus: Exposure to FinOps practices or cloud financial management products
  • Bonus: BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
Responsibilities:
  • Build integrations with third-party billing and usage APIs to expand vendor coverage and make more customer spend visible in our platform
  • Keep integrations current as vendors change their APIs and pricing models, and reduce the marginal cost of adding integrations
  • Use AI daily throughout the workflow, including exploring codebases and APIs, prototyping, generating and reviewing code, debugging, testing, and documenting; assess where AI improves velocity and where human judgment is needed
  • Own the quality of integration data, addressing duplication, gaps, race conditions, marketplace spend deduplication, and customers negotiated rates
  • Build checks and reconciliation processes to verify data accuracy
  • Design and build models that normalize vendor bills across units, currencies, time granularity, resource and service taxonomies, and cost categories
  • Own ingestion pipeline orchestration, scheduling, and backfills end-to-end, making backfills safe, routine, and self-service
  • Collaborate with product, support, and engineers who use the data to identify and address customer-impacting gaps
  • Propose and drive work proactively rather than waiting for a specification
