Lead Platform Engineer

Salary: £35,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• Were looking for 5–8 years of hands-on software engineering experience, ideally in AI, SaaS, or automation platforms.
• We value a first-class or strong degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• You should already be a lead engineer or close to it, with experience owning the technical direction of projects.
• We require deep expertise in Node.js and NestJS, and strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservice-based systems.
• Frontend and Next.js experience is ideal.
• You should have built with LLMs and agents, understand the challenges of scaling agentic pipelines, and regularly use Claude Code and agentic workflows.
• Were looking for someone with start-up experience or a record of standout performance at a top firm, ideally in a small, fast-paced team with significant ownership.
• You should be able to lead and bring engineers along while remaining a strong hands-on builder.
• This role may not suit you if you prefer a 9-to-5 role in a large firm with established playbooks and little ownership, want a purely people-management track, treat AI coding tools as optional, or need months to ramp up before contributing.
• Our platform uses a NestJS backend, Next.js frontend, a monorepo deployed as microservices, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Postgres, MongoDB, and Qdrant.

Responsibilities:

• Well ask you to architect, design, and build scalable backend systems and APIs across the stack, from architecture through production.
• Youll design and maintain microservice and event-driven architectures supporting the voice agents real-time operational workflows.
• Youll lead a small engineering team, drive delivery, review work, and be accountable for what ships.
• Youll set our standards for building with agentic AI, including Claude Code workflows and shared engineering practices.
• Youll work directly with our Head of Engineering on technical strategy and architecture decisions, including what to build and when.
• Youll maintain secure, performant, maintainable systems and reliable data pipelines as our platform scales.
• Youll learn the property workflows our platform automates so the systems you build address the right problems.
• Well expect you to build and lead from day one, ship meaningful work in your first month, take ownership of a major system area and lead a small team by month three, and establish effective agentic development practices as the team and platform grow.

Were a fast-growing, venture-backed AI start-up building an AI system of action for the UK property sector. Our platform sits on top of customers CRMs and runs day-to-day operational work, including prospecting, viewings, maintenance, compliance, and arrears. A real-time voice agent handles calls when a branch cant. This is a full-time, permanent Lead Platform Engineer role based in Central London, with four days on site. Youll work under our Head of Engineering in a from-scratch, agentic engineering environment where developers use Claude Code and AI agents, and the product is built on agentic pipelines. Our goal is to scale the platform to every UK agency that needs it.
