DevOps Architect / Transformation Lead

Requirements:

• Strong background in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Software Architecture or Engineering Transformation.
• Experience assessing and improving software delivery processes within large organisations.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Git workflows, release management and cloud-native delivery.
• Experience driving engineering maturity, automation and developer productivity improvements.
• Ability to engage senior stakeholders and provide strategic recommendations.
• Knowledge of DORA metrics, developer experience (DevEx) and engineering effectiveness.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or similar.

Responsibilities:

• Assess existing software engineering and DevOps operating models.
• Review CI/CD pipelines, release processes, branching strategies and development workflows.
• Identify delivery bottlenecks and opportunities to improve engineering productivity.
• Define recommendations and transformation roadmaps to improve software delivery performance.
• Run workshops with engineering, architecture and leadership teams.
• Promote best practices across SDLC, platform engineering, automation and DevOps.
• Help organisations adopt AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices.
• Measure and improve engineering effectiveness using metrics and data-led insights.

We are hiring a DevOps Architect / Transformation Lead for one of our local clients on a 6 month+ contract. This is a remote role with occasional meetings in York, offered at £600 p/d inside IR35 and requiring BPSS. We are looking for someone to help assess and improve engineering operating models, support transformation initiatives, and drive better software delivery performance across teams.
