Senior Software Engineer I - Europe and UK Onboarding

Salary: £66,000 - 106,000 per year

Requirements:

• A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, prioritising work with customers in mind and making data-driven decisions to fix customer pain points.
• Experience with Java or another JVM-based language, Spring framework, and a deep understanding of JDBC and database internals.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and distributed and concurrent systems.
• Experience with machine learning basics, including data pipelines, feature engineering, recall/precision, and familiarity with machine learning systems in production, is a plus.
• Ability to work independently on customer problems with end-to-end ownership of projects.
• Close collaboration with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, engineers, and other product teams.
• Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation, and schema design.
• Enjoyment of writing testable code and belief in Test Driven Development.
• Commitment to best coding practices, code reviews, and open feedback.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build reliable, scalable systems supporting business onboarding and verification across Europe and the UK.
• Build and improve systems for verifying businesses, owners, directors, and other associated parties.
• Automate information collection, verification, and decision-making to reduce onboarding time and manual work.
• Create flexible onboarding journeys that adapt to different markets, business types, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop effective controls and monitoring to manage financial-crime and compliance risks with minimal customer friction.
• Own projects end to end, from problem discovery and technical design through to delivery and measuring impact.
• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Operations, and other engineering teams while maintaining high standards for reliability, testing, and code quality.
