Principal Engineer Software Engineering

Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need a logical thinker with the ability to pragmatically resolve problems and bring stakeholders onboard with the resolution.
• We need extensive knowledge and experience of software assurance methods and processes, including audit and review.
• We need an understanding of the application of software engineering, security, quality and safety standards, including Defence Standard 00-055, BS EN 61508, BS EN 61511, DO-178B/C, DO-254 and DO-331.
• We need a good understanding of the principles of the software lifecycle and its application to other types of software, including programmable electronics.
• We need an understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle and how this relates to software.
• Applicants must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard.
• Some roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting, typically involving 5 to 10 years of continuous UK residency depending on the vetting level required.

Responsibilities:

• We will have you work as a technical leader within our software assurance team.
• We will have you work with system designers and our suppliers to ensure the safety, quality and reliability of the delivered products.
• We will have you ensure that the boats safety and functional requirements are met and that risk is identified and managed.
• We will have you take a strategic approach to solving complex problems to ensure customer acceptance within a wider programme of work.
• We will have you develop capability within the team and the wider business.
• We will have you plan and carry out software assurance activities, including reviews of plans and processes, witnessing testing, inspections and auditing.
• We will have you review software plans, documentation and software aspects of system-level plans and documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
• We will have you engage with system designers, other engineering disciplines and software developers in the design process to ensure that software meets requirements.
• We will have you document the level of risk, provide evidence and reporting for senior management.
• We will have you work with a range of stakeholders at all levels to resolve non-conformances and programme issues.
