Embedded Software Development Engineer in Test
Job Description
Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year
Requirements:- We require a bachelors degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- We require hands-on experience testing embedded software, including development of automated test solutions.
- We require experience working within an embedded software test environment and collaborating closely with software development engineers.
- We require experience creating structured test cases from product requirements and executing effective software validation strategies.
- We require experience with embedded test tools, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
- Advantageous experience includes C#, .NET Framework and/or .NET Core (ASP.NET).
- Advantageous experience includes software testing tools such as FitNesse, Zephyr and/or TestComplete (VBScript).
- Advantageous experience includes scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript or TCL.
- Advantageous experience includes familiarity with Linux environments.
- Advantageous experience includes understanding of HTTP, REST and SOAP APIs.
- Advantageous experience includes exposure to CI/CD pipelines, including Azure DevOps Pipelines or GitHub Actions.
- Advantageous experience includes knowledge of Ethernet communication protocols.
- Advantageous experience includes working with embedded hardware platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino or PLCs.
- Advantageous experience includes the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical datasheets.
- We design, develop and maintain automated and manual test cases for embedded software used in industrial coding and marking equipment.
- We work within a cross-functional Agile Scrum team alongside Software Engineers, Electronics Engineers and Mechanical Engineers to ensure product quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- We execute a variety of testing methodologies including functional, regression, exploratory, integration and end-to-end testing.
- We support new product development by creating comprehensive test coverage while maintaining existing regression suites for current products.
- We investigate software issues identified internally or by customers, reproducing defects and working closely with development teams to resolve them.
- We drive continuous improvement of software test automation, helping transform existing manual testing into efficient automated solutions that improve engineering productivity.
