Job Description

Salary: £40,000 - 80,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a degree in a numerate subject such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • We require experience managing and manipulating large-scale datasets.
  • We require strong programming skills in Stata or R.
  • We require experience working with relational database management systems, ideally PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Experience with linked health data, including NHS data sources, would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with database design would be advantageous.
Responsibilities:
  • We manage, develop, link, clean, and maintain large research databases, particularly those associated with the EPIC study and EPIC-Oxford cohort.
  • We process and integrate data from linked health records, questionnaires, laboratory assays, and other sources, and prepare datasets for research projects.
  • We manage Biobank databases, support sample tracking, and maintain database documentation.
  • We develop reusable statistical programming code.
  • We work closely with researchers to prepare datasets, conduct data cleaning and analyses, generate tables and figures, and contribute to data management and data-sharing activities across the Unit.

We are seeking a Statistical Programmer to join the Cancer Epidemiology Unit within the Nuffield Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford, based at Old Road Campus in Headington, Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with epidemiologists, statisticians, IT staff, and research coordinators on large prospective epidemiological studies investigating lifestyle, dietary, hormonal, molecular, and genetic factors in relation to cancer and other common non-communicable diseases. The post is full-time, although part-time is considered, and fixed term for 2 years. The salary is £39,424 - £47,779 on Standard Grade 7.
