Senior Software Engineer, Machine Learning Services

Salary: £29,000 - 69,000 per year

Requirements:

• We have 5+ years of experience engineering and architecting large-scale, distributed commercial services.
• We have deep proficiency in a systems-level language such as Rust, C++, or Go, and are willing to become an expert in Rust.
• We have strong Python skills.
• We have experience with cloud ecosystems such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• We have experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• We understand concurrency, multithreading, and asynchronous programming.
• We have a pragmatic grasp of computer science fundamentals and data structures and algorithms.
• We can articulate our views on good code and good architecture and are comfortable challenging assumptions.
• Nice to have: we have production Rust experience.
• Nice to have: we have MLOps experience in multi-tenant, high-availability systems.
• Nice to have: we have experience building ML inference services, working with ONNX, or GPU programming with CUDA.
• Nice to have: we have built custom storage or job-queueing systems.

Responsibilities:

• We design, build, and operate our core MLS platform, including our Rust-based API gateway, Python ML compute workers, and distributed job queue.
• We solve concurrency, performance, and distributed systems problems for high-volume production workloads.
• We work with product and ML science teams to build scalable infrastructure for their models.
• We develop our content-addressable storage abstraction layer over cloud object stores, including garbage collection and sharding logic.
• We enhance our asynchronous job-queueing system built on the storage layer using compare-and-swap primitives.
• We work across Kubernetes, container orchestration, gRPC-based communication, and ONNX inference performance tuning on GPU-accelerated hardware.
• We write clean, efficient, rigorously tested code and participate in peer review.
