Principal Solution Architect - Systems

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need a strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in written and verbal formats, especially with stakeholders.
• We need experience capturing technical requirements and documenting them in written and visual formats such as PowerPoint and Visio.
• We need experience engaging with business and IT stakeholders to gather requirements and align architecture with business goals.
• We need experience working within Agile, DevOps, and product-aligned teams, contributing to sprint-based and continuous delivery.
• We need demonstrable experience working within TOGAF and a deep understanding of its application.
• We need expertise in solution integration, process orchestration, and data flow design across enterprise systems.
• We need demonstrable experience supporting enterprise change initiatives.
• We need expert knowledge of knowledge management solutions.
• We need practical expertise in Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI, as well as governance models.
• We need a deep understanding of SaaS platforms, identity and access management such as Microsoft Entra, and integration approaches.
• We need a strong grasp of enterprise integration patterns, APIs, middleware, and event-driven architectures.
• We need experience leading solution architecture using Azure services.
• We need a deep understanding of Java application design and development practices to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
• We need strong knowledge of data, security, compliance, and risk in shared service functions.
• We need a proven capability in designing solutions across multiple technology domains in complex organisations.
• We need a demonstrated track record of delivering architecture in at least one relevant business area: Legal, Compliance, Risk, or Communications/Marketing.
• We need experience leading architecture on cross-functional projects, managing diverse stakeholders, and influencing senior decision-makers.
• We need extensive experience working with SaaS, Low/No Code, and custom development solutions within enterprise environments.
• We need the ability to create and maintain architectural artefacts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Professional certifications are desirable, including TOGAF, Microsoft Certified credentials in Power Platform or Azure Solutions Architect, and Adobe AEM certifications.
• We value demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development in solution architecture and technology innovation.

Responsibilities:

• We design end-to-end solutions that solve business problems and support implementation with Technical Architects.
• We lead activities that guide the development of a portfolio of solutions, including projects, products, systems, shared infrastructure, and application services.
• We ensure technology solutions align with business objectives, value streams, architectural standards, and future-state architectures.
• We interpret and translate complex business and technical requirements into coherent architectural blueprints.
• We document solution architecture design and analysis work, ensuring alignment with current needs and long-term objectives.
• We work closely with product owners and product managers to maintain an architectural runway that supports future product evolution.
• We collaborate with Technical Architects to transform high-level solutions into actionable designs and support delivery teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• We lead the evaluation and ongoing development of future-state technology architecture by monitoring the solution portfolio and identifying technical debt, legacy risks, and misalignment with business requirements.
• We analyse global and enterprise-wide trends and apply strategic insight to guide innovation, technology refreshes, and sustainable evolution of services and systems.
• We evaluate solution options, vendors, and platforms using cost-benefit analysis, proof of concepts, and RFP support.
• We define, lead, and govern the implementation of solution architectures across business applications and technology domains.
• We develop long-term roadmaps and provide architecture guidance at enterprise and delivery levels.
• We deliver enterprise-level designs and architectural artefacts such as solution documents, reference models, and scorecards.
• We provide expert consulting to teams throughout the development lifecycle.
• We partner with the PMO and project leads to track architectural alignment, facilitate governance, and support a community of practice.
• As the Solution Architect for Systems, we lead the design and implementation of application architectures and integration solutions that enable seamless communication and data flow between systems.
• We architect application landscapes that are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business objectives.
• We act as trusted advisors across Information Management, Knowledge Management, OGC, OCCO, Risk, Communications, and Editorial and Creative functions.
• We develop and maintain end-to-end solution designs spanning SaaS, Low/No Code, CMS, information and knowledge management, and custom development platforms using Azure services.
• We translate complex business needs into technology solutions that balance cost, risk, scalability, and usability.
• We provide expert guidance on Adobe Experience Manager for digital experience and CMS platforms.
• We define and govern Low/No Code solutions on Microsoft Power Platform, ensuring best practice adoption and data governance.
• We lead the evaluation of SaaS products and integrations for suitability, security, and alignment with architectural principles.
