Lead Software Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year
Requirements:- Formal training or certification in engineering concepts, with 10+ years of applied experience
- Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages
- Strong automation and continuous delivery experience
- Proficiency across the full software development life cycle
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
- Demonstrated experience with software applications and technical processes in a technical discipline such as cloud, AI, machine learning, or mobile
- Full stack development experience with Java 21, React, or similar frameworks, including public cloud and CI/CD strategies
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools with a strong verification mindset
- In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems is preferred
- Practical cloud-native experience is preferred
- Experience with observability tooling and practices, including structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and incident/problem management is preferred
- Strong communication skills, ownership mindset, and ability to collaborate across product, engineering, and operations
- Commitment to inclusive teamwork and continuous improvement in engineering practices and delivery excellence
- Execute creative software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting
- Develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others
- Identify and automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability of software applications and systems
- Lead evaluation sessions with business stakeholders and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and fit within existing systems and information architecture
- Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to increase awareness and adoption of new and leading-edge technologies
- Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate engineering work while maintaining proper controls
- Draft and refactor code and documentation, validating outputs through tests, code review, and static/security scanning
- Generate and expand test scenarios, including edge cases and regression suites, and verify correctness and coverage
- Assist with troubleshooting by summarizing logs, alerts, and traces and proposing hypotheses for reproducible investigation
- Apply responsible AI practices by protecting sensitive data and verifying AI output before use
