Software Developer - Senior Consultant

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require applicants to either currently hold active Security Check (SC) Clearance or be eligible to obtain it.
• Eligibility typically requires UK citizenship and continuous residence in the UK for the past five years, with no single absence exceeding 28 consecutive days.
• We value experience in delivering digital services for the UK government.
• Familiarity with the GDS toolkit is beneficial.
• We require expertise in Java and/or Scala.
• Experience in other languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Kotlin, Python or Ruby is valuable.
• Experience in a technical leadership role is required.
• We expect a deep understanding of programming paradigms, code design, testing, accessibility, performance and security.
• We value proven ability to apply different testing tools and methods in practice.
• Knowledge or experience of delivering complex services to Government Digital Service (GDS) standards is beneficial.

• Experience with agile methodology is required.
• Applicants must be able to commute to offices and client sites as part of normal working arrangements, as travel is essential to the role.

• Drive the elaboration of our teams backlog.
• Set testing strategies to match industry standards.
• Act as a technical expert in the team or as the team lead.
• Lead the technical representation in a project discovery.
• Enable the team to achieve its full potential.
• Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders in a consultancy environment.
• Use test driven development and pair programming as best practice.
• Help improve ways of working, working technology and the overall client experience from discovery through to live.

We are partnering directly with Opencast Software to hire contractors in software development at senior level or technical lead level. We care more about engineering craft, clean design and thoughtful problem-solving than speed of ticket delivery. Our consultants work in complex environments, pairing often and applying TDD, emerging design and refactoring to leave code better than they found it. We are collaborative, tech agnostic and focused on simple, robust solutions. The role is varied and technical, with regular on-site attendance across our HQ, hub offices, client sites and home. The salary is £450 - £600 per day inside IR35. Interviews are conducted via Microsoft Teams, and we welcome candidates from all identities, attributes, ways of thinking and backgrounds.
