Senior Research Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £51,000 - 63,000 per year

Requirements:

• We have significant experience across at least two of the following areas, with deep expertise in one: High Performance Computing (HPC), Linux systems administration, enterprise storage platforms, high performance networking, interactive computing environments, GPU-enabled infrastructure, or scientific/research computing
• We have experience leading technical projects or workstreams
• We have experience solving complex infrastructure challenges
• We communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• We have experience producing technical documentation and delivering training
• We can translate user requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Desirable: experience in research, scientific, or higher education environments
• Desirable: experience in infrastructure design and architecture
• Desirable: experience with DevOps practices and automation
• Desirable: experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies
• Desirable: experience with AI and machine learning infrastructure
• Desirable: experience with grant-funded projects or bid contributions
• Desirable: line management or project leadership experience
• Desirable: PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualifications

Responsibilities:

• We develop and maintain large-scale research computing infrastructure
• We support HPC, AI, and data-intensive workloads
• We manage enterprise storage and associated services
• We lead the investigation and resolution of complex technical issues
• We work closely with researchers to understand requirements and develop effective solutions
• We contribute to infrastructure design, roadmaps, and future platform development
• We lead technical workstreams and small project teams when required
• We produce technical documentation, guidance, and training materials
• We work collaboratively with internal teams and external technology partners
• We contribute to research and funding initiatives where appropriate
