Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £65,000 - 65,000 per year
Requirements:- We require a minimum of a BSc/BA in Computer Science or a related field, along with other professional management training.
- We require extensive experience, typically 5 years, in at least 3 of the following: Azure SQL Server 2022, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Microsoft Fabric, ETL/ELT workflows, and Synapse.
- We require architectural experience in Azure data warehousing; experience with NoSQL technologies such as Cosmos DB or MongoDB is a plus.
- We require advanced SQL CI/CD automation using Azure DevOps for deployments.
- We require proficiency in GIT for repository management, branching strategies, and collaboration.
- We require strong Python scripting for data automation, orchestration, and pipeline optimisation.
- We require working knowledge of C# for maintaining and modifying legacy Windows applications.
- We require experience with Power BI, QuickSight, or similar analytics tools.
- We require adherence to ETL and data management best practices, including incremental loads, error handling, and metadata logging.
- We require knowledge of data protection regulations and security protocols, including GDPR, CCPA, encryption, and RBAC.
- We require Agile/SCRUM experience, including collaboration with offshore teams.
- We require the ability to migrate legacy systems to modern cloud architectures.
- We require the ability to anticipate issues, recommend pragmatic solutions, and write clean, reusable code.
- We require strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- We require the ability to manage tight deadlines with attention to detail.
- We consider it ideal, though not essential, to have an excellent understanding of entity-relationship and multidimensional data modelling, data warehouse life cycle, and SQL Server.
- We consider it ideal, though not essential, to have experience creating master and child packages, package configurations, logging, and using variables and expressions in packages.
- We consider it ideal, though not essential, to have experience working with offshore teams.
- We consider it ideal, though not essential, to have experience writing technical specifications for work to be performed by other developers.
- We consider it ideal, though not essential, to have development experience in C# with strong software methodology and practices.
- We consider it ideal, though not essential, to have experience with Informatica, Talend, Azure SQL Server, and NoSQL databases including MongoDB and DynamoDB.
- We develop and maintain our existing cloud data platform.
- We analyse proposed information requests and collaborate with business units to drive enterprise reporting.
- We write scripts for importing and exporting data into enterprise applications while maintaining data integrity across applications.
- We use enterprise report writing tools to extract data and share information for automated reporting in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- We select the best technology solutions for business problems and look for opportunities to use technology to meet corporate goals.
- We ensure high data quality in all delivered solutions.
- We provide solid documentation for all design and coding projects.
- We maintain confidentiality of information being processed, stored, or accessed on the network.
- We ensure the data architecture is scalable and maintainable.
- We design, implement, and expand data acquisition through extraction, transformation, and loading activities.
- We build, debug, monitor, and troubleshoot databases and ETL processes to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and integrity.
- We design, develop, and maintain data stores such as data warehouses, data marts, and related information repositories to support reporting, analytics, and integrations.
- We translate business needs into technical specifications for BI.
- We design, implement, monitor, and maintain BI environments and database servers to meet usage and performance demands.
- We establish performance and reliability metrics for data stores, reports, dashboards, and analytics tools.
- We design, implement, and tune relational queries, stored procedures, and table-valued functions for optimal performance and reliability.
- We create and maintain supporting documentation, including data dictionaries, data flows, and database schemas.
- We collaborate with developers, product owners, and business analysts to conceptualise, design, and develop new database applications, modules, and enhancements.
- We assist with the design and development of data schemas and definitions to support business intelligence and data warehousing requirements.

We are a fast-growing, international organisation expanding our online platform and broadening our corporate intelligence and due diligence solutions. We are digitally transforming our business and are seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to join our Data & BI Team at our head office in Oxford. This is a hybrid role based in Oxford, with 3 days per week in the office and 2 days remote. The role offers a basic salary of £60,000 to £65,000 plus excellent benefits.
