Lead Software Engineer Python API

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer with strong Python expertise and solid software engineering best practices knowledge.
• We need someone with full SDLC experience.
• We require team leadership experience, including mentoring, developing others, and conducting 1-2-1s and performance reviews.
• We value experience with cloud-based services; GCP is preferred, but AWS or Azure experience is acceptable.
• We expect experience building APIs, ideally with FastAPI.
• We need strong knowledge of CI/CD, testing, and deployment.
• We look for a thorough understanding of computer science fundamentals, including OOP, data structures, design patterns, and algorithms.
• We want a collaborative, pragmatic communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
• We require a degree in a STEM discipline with at least a 2.1 classification.
• We are seeking someone with a backend-focused technical background and leadership capability.

Responsibilities:

• We will have you lead a small, talented engineering team to deliver new features and enhancements.
• We will have you contribute to refactoring work across our core banking platform.
• We expect you to help build and evolve a platform that integrates with major financial partners.
• You will spend roughly half your time on architecture and design and half on people management.
• You will set technical standards and promote best practices across the team.
• You will mentor junior developers and support a culture of continuous improvement and self-development.
• You will collaborate closely with colleagues to solve problems in a hands-on way.
• You will work across a relatively young codebase with plenty of new projects to get involved in.
