Lead AI/ML Software Engineer (Python)

Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year

Requirements:

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Demonstrable strength in a cloud-based engineering environment
• Advanced Python; additional programming languages are a plus
• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations
• Experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption of AI-assisted tools within delivery practices
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
• Good understanding of databases and data structures
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems
• Practical cloud-native experience

Responsibilities:

• Execute creative software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using approaches that go beyond routine or conventional methods
• Develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others
• Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and fit within existing systems and information architecture
• Provide technical leadership on data projects across engineers, product managers, and stakeholders
• Mentor and guide junior engineers
• Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes
• Establish consistent validation standards, including secure coding, peer review, and automated testing
• Promote reuse of effective patterns across the team
• Apply knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle tools, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve automation value
• Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability of software applications and systems
