Java Software Engineer

Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with proficient applied experience.
• We require hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• We require proficiency in Java.
• We require experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
• We require overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• We require a solid understanding of agile methodologies, including continuous integration/continuous delivery, application resiliency, and security.
• We require demonstrated knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile.
• We require hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment, with the ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs.
• We require understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
• Preferred: familiarity with modern front-end technologies.
• Preferred: exposure to cloud technologies, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Responsibilities:

• We design and develop scalable and resilient systems using Java to support continual, iterative improvements for product teams.
• We execute software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using approaches beyond routine or conventional methods.
• We create secure and high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems.
• We produce architecture and design artifacts for applications while ensuring design constraints are met through software code development.
• We gather, analyze, synthesize, and develop visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets to support continuous improvement of software applications and systems.
• We identify hidden problems and patterns in data and use these insights to improve coding hygiene and system architecture.
• We contribute to software engineering communities of practice and events exploring new and emerging technologies.
• We leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity, while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
• We apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
