DevOps Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - 60,000 per year

Requirements:

• We have 5+ years of Python development experience, focused on structured, testable application code rather than scripting.
• We understand Python packaging, virtual environments, dependency management, and code quality tooling such as pip, Poetry, pylint, black, and mypy.
• We have experience building CLI tools and automation frameworks using Python.
• We have hands-on experience with Jinja2 templating for reusable, parameterized configuration and infrastructure code generation.
• We have experience with pytest for unit and integration testing of automation code.
• We have strong Terraform experience, including module design, state management, remote backends, workspaces, and dependency graphs.
• We have proven experience generating Terraform HCL programmatically using Python and Jinja2.
• We are familiar with Terraform tooling such as tflint, tfsec, terraform-docs, Terragrunt, or Atlantis.
• We understand Terraform provider internals and resource lifecycle management.
• We have hands-on Puppet experience, including manifests, modules, Hiera data hierarchies, node classification, and r10k / Code Manager workflows.
• We have experience managing mixed Linux and Windows environments with Puppet at scale.
• We are familiar with puppet-lint, rspec-puppet, and automated Puppet module testing pipelines.
• We understand Puppet Enterprise or open-source Puppet Server administration.
• We are proficient in PowerShell scripting for Windows Server administration, task automation, and hybrid cloud integrations.
• We have experience writing reusable PowerShell modules, functions, and error-handling patterns.
• We are familiar with Pester for PowerShell unit testing.
• We have experience automating Active Directory, Group Policy, or Windows networking tasks via PowerShell.
• We have solid AWS experience across EC2, EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• We are familiar with CI/CD platforms and integrating infrastructure code pipelines such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
• We are comfortable working with Linux and Windows Server in production environments.

Responsibilities:

• We design and develop scalable automation frameworks in Python to drive infrastructure standardization and operational excellence.
• We build and enhance Terraform code-generation platforms using Python and Jinja2 to produce validated, environment-specific infrastructure code from reusable templates.
• We develop and maintain Puppet modules, manifests, and Hiera configurations to manage Linux and Windows environments at scale.
• We create robust PowerShell automation solutions for server management, Active Directory administration, and hybrid cloud integrations.
• We develop internal automation tools, command-line utilities, and APIs that enable engineering teams to self-service common operational tasks.
• We integrate automation frameworks with CI/CD pipelines to enable automated validation, testing, and deployment of infrastructure changes.
• We implement comprehensive testing strategies for infrastructure code, including unit testing, linting, and integration testing.
• We partner with cloud, platform, and application teams to identify manual processes, eliminate operational toil, and drive automation-first solutions.
• We create clear documentation, standards, and runbooks for automation frameworks and infrastructure templates.
• We participate in code reviews, share best practices, and continuously improve the quality, security, and maintainability of automation solutions.
