Product Manager - Payroll Systems

Salary: £65,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• Deep, current UK payroll knowledge, including PAYE, NIC, RTI, statutory payments, pensions and auto-enrolment
• Demonstrable product management experience in software, including discovery, requirements, backlog ownership and shipping releases
• Experience moving payrolls between systems, including data migration, parallel running and reconciliation would be ideal
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce specifications others can act on without you in the room
• Desirable: experience with high-volume hourly-paid workforces and/or a CIPP qualification

Responsibilities:

• Own the payroll product end to end, including requirements baseline, backlog, roadmap and release plan
• Work day to day with engineering and our internal payroll team, testing changes yourself where needed
• Act as the go-to payroll authority for our teams from a product point of view
• Shape the long-term payroll product strategy and roadmap

We are an established, growth-stage UK software product company building our own payroll system from the ground up. This is a newly created role and the first time we are bringing professional product ownership to the build. The product is well advanced, but we need someone with genuine product discipline and deep payroll expertise to finalise the specification, close the gaps and get it ready for customers. The role is based in the Birmingham area, with mostly remote working and occasional time in the office, and offers a salary of £65,000 to £75,000 plus benefits. You will join a small, direct team backed by equity investment, where decisions move fast and we combine workforce management and payroll natively in one system.
