Security Consultant – Architect - Financial Services
Job Description
Salary: £50,000 - 75,000 per year
Requirements:- Bachelors degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in cyber security, security architecture, solution architecture, technology risk, or a related field.
- Experience delivering security requirements and controls within technology transformation or application delivery programmes.
- Experience within financial services or other highly regulated industries.
- Understanding of core security principles, including Zero Trust, defence-in-depth, least privilege, secure-by-design, and resilience-by-design.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following domains: cloud security (Azure, AWS, GCP), network security, identity and access management (IAM), application security / DevSecOps, infrastructure and platform security, or continuous threat exposure management.
- Ability to analyse technical risks and communicate recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI-enabled tools to improve productivity, delivery quality, or security outcomes.
- Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, SABSA, TOGAF, Security+, or equivalent are preferred.
- Knowledge of financial services regulations and frameworks, including PRA, FCA, DORA, NIS2, ISO 27001, and NIST is preferred.
- Understanding of emerging technologies such as quantum and agentic progression is preferred.
- Understanding of operational resilience, technology resilience, and risk management practices is preferred.
- Familiarity with banking, payments, capital markets, or insurance technology environments is preferred.
- Experience supporting security assessments, audits, or compliance reviews is preferred.
- Consulting experience and exposure to client-facing engagements is preferred.
- Work with clients and delivery teams to design secure technology solutions, reduce cyber risk, and embed security throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Help reduce cyber risk across technology programmes by identifying, defining, and assuring appropriate security requirements, controls, and risk treatments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct threat modelling exercises using industry frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK to identify credible threats and recommend proportionate security controls.
- Design and advise on functional and technical security requirements that support business objectives and regulatory obligations.
- Support solution design, development, and deployment activities to ensure security requirements are implemented effectively.
- Define monitoring, logging, and security assurance requirements to identify control failures, security incidents, and potential compromises.
- Support procurement and third-party risk activities by developing security requirements and reviewing supplier security controls.
- Maintain clear traceability between threats, risks, requirements, controls, testing outcomes, and risk decisions.
- Produce security assurance evidence to support risk acceptance, go-live approvals, and operational readiness reviews.
- Interpret relevant laws, regulations, standards, and internal policies and translate them into practical requirements for delivery teams.
- Partner with architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to embed security-by-design principles into technology solutions.
