Lead DevOps Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £40,000 - 80,000 per year
Requirements:- Hands-on technical lead experience, including mentoring and guiding engineers
- Agile delivery experience, including planning, prioritization, backlog refinement, sprint ceremonies, dependency management, and delivery tracking across distributed teams
- Experience using Jira or similar tools
- Strong communication skills and the ability to drive issues to resolution with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Linux/Unix administration, operational support, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
- Scripting/programming in Python, Bash, or similar
- CI/CD pipeline experience with Jenkins, GitLab, or similar
- Containerization and artifact publishing experience
- Infrastructure as code and configuration management experience with Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or similar
- Strong understanding of networking, routing, and traffic flow across distributed systems
- Knowledge of high availability, resiliency, capacity, and latency considerations
- Experience supporting customer-facing, low-latency, high-availability, or other business-critical platforms
- Monitoring, logging, and observability experience, including tools such as Splunk or similar
- Cross-functional collaboration with application, network, infrastructure, security, and operations teams
- Kubernetes or other container orchestration platform experience; AWS EKS is a plus
- Hands-on AWS and hybrid cloud experience, including EC2, ALB, S3, RDS/Aurora, and EFS
- Experience with cloud or hybrid hosting environments; Azure is a plus
- Experience supporting financial systems, trading platforms, market data platforms, feeds, or similar low-latency infrastructure
- Knowledge of unicast and multicast networking in low-latency or market data environments
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar
- Experience contributing to AI-enabled automation, operational workflows, or infrastructure strategy
- Proven success working in a global, matrixed organization
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Terraform Associate, RHCE, PSM, CSM, or ITIL are a plus
- Lead the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and highly available trading infrastructure
- Provide technical direction, mentorship, and guidance to engineers while remaining an active hands-on contributor across DevOps, automation, infrastructure, and platform engineering initiatives
- Build and improve automated CI/CD pipelines for Java and Python applications across multiple environments
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, configuration, database schema creation, and operational workflows across cloud and on-prem platforms
- Support production systems with a focus on high availability, disaster recovery, incident response, vulnerability management, patching, and change management
- Containerize applications and support deployments using container orchestration platforms
- Partner with development teams to understand application codebases and architecture, improving deployment, monitoring, and operational readiness
- Use infrastructure as code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Chef, or Ansible to drive consistency and repeatability
- Troubleshoot complex deployment, performance, networking, and infrastructure issues, with an emphasis on preventing recurring manual fixes through automation
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate development, automation, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational workflows
- Identify, design, and help implement AI-enabled operational capabilities for infrastructure automation, observability, incident response, and platform engineering
- Contribute to the strategy for safe, practical, and secure adoption of AI across infrastructure and DevOps practices
- Lead and participate in Agile delivery practices, using Jira to manage priorities, plan work, track delivery, communicate dependencies, and provide clear status across infrastructure and application initiatives
- Collaborate with global teams, vendors, and stakeholders on support issues, release schedules, system administration needs, and platform improvements
