Salary: £37,000 - 68,500 per year

Requirements:
  • We need experience as a Data Engineer, Data Developer, AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, or in a similar technical discipline.
  • We need strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • We need experience designing and building scalable data pipelines and working with structured and unstructured data.
  • We need experience leading technical workstreams or taking ownership of significant elements of project delivery.
  • We need experience mentoring, coaching, or providing technical guidance to junior team members.
  • We need the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders and translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • We need experience working in complex delivery environments, ideally within a consultancy or professional services organisation.
  • We need strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering clean, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
  • We need experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • We need to be eligible to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
  • We need the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Desirable experience includes machine learning and AI engineering, Generative AI and large language models, prompt engineering and context engineering, scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow, LangChain or similar AI frameworks, cloud data platforms and services across AWS, Azure or GCP, data warehouses and modern data platforms, big data and distributed processing technologies, data integration, data quality and data governance, and model testing, evaluation and monitoring.
Responsibilities:
  • We lead technical workstreams within larger data and AI transformation programmes.
  • We design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, datasets, and data models.
  • We develop solutions that support analytics, reporting, machine learning, and AI use cases.
  • We work with both structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
  • We develop and implement AI and machine learning solutions where appropriate, including prediction, classification, automation, and insight generation.
  • We build Generative AI-enabled solutions using Large Language Models, prompt engineering, and context engineering techniques.
  • We provide technical direction to project teams, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and reliable delivery.
  • We mentor and support junior engineers, promoting best practices and supporting their technical development.
  • We work closely with Business Analysts, Data Analysts, Product teams, and senior stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • We implement testing, validation, and monitoring to ensure data accuracy, model performance, and solution reliability.
  • We optimise data processing, storage, and AI workloads for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
  • We produce clear technical documentation covering pipelines, data models, solution logic, and technical assumptions.
  • We ensure solutions adhere to appropriate data governance, security, and privacy standards.
  • We work as part of Agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams.

This is a permanent, Manchester-based hybrid role with a salary of up to £77,000, plus a performance-related bonus.
