Salary: £68,000 - 108,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We are looking for people who are passionate about engineering to join our community led team in Shared Applications Service (SAS).

  • This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working.
  • This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 3 days per week due to business requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • We develop core components of our solutions and help select appropriate technologies.
  • We work to our technical standards, writing clean, secure code following a test-driven approach.
  • We ensure code is open as far as possible and can be re-used.
  • We deliver secure, reliable and scalable software and support our team with technical tasks when needed.
  • We evaluate and advise on design choices and ensure software is high quality and balances technical and business considerations.
  • We define and document test cases for new systems and maintain live systems to ensure ongoing performance.
  • We evolve new approaches and solutions with other professions through discoveries, maintaining a focus on development and deployment.
  • We help prioritise and direct technical tasks across our team to balance new and live services.
  • We mentor and lead other engineers in technical tasks.
  • We support recruitment and assessment activities.

We are the Home Office, and our Shared Applications Service (SAS) community led team works in agile multidisciplinary teams with over 200 engineers in a modern cloud environment using the latest technologies. Our purpose is to bring technical understanding in-house for over 600 Home Office applications. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working, with employees expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office. This role is based in Salford or Sheffield, UK, with a salary of 62,732 per year. We offer a Civil Service Pension with employer contribution rates of at least 28.97%, an in-year reward scheme, 25 days annual leave on appointment rising with service, and 8 days of public holidays plus 1 privilege day. The role may attract a digital capability-based allowance subject to assessment, and it is available on full-time, compressed hours, or part-time working of at least 3 days per week. Interviews are expected to take place remotely via MS Teams.
