Senior Principal Statistical Programmer
Job Description
Salary: £60,000 - 100,000 per year
Requirements:- We require a BS/MS degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics, data science, life science, or an equivalent relevant degree.
- We require extensive experience and deep expertise in statistical programming languages such as R, SAS, or Python.
- We require advanced experience contributing to statistical analysis plans and/or constructing technical programming specifications.
- We require advanced knowledge of industry standards including CDISC data structures and a solid understanding of standard program development and use.
- We require a good understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to statistical programming, such as GCP and study procedures.
- We require proven communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to work well with others globally and influence stakeholders.
- We require experience as a Trial, Lead, or Program Programmer across several studies or project-level activities, including coordination of internal or external programmers.
- We value the ability to transfer knowledge to others and to work with modern tools and approaches such as Git-based workflows, R packages, R Shiny applications, and AI-enabled tools.
- We lead statistical programming activities as Trial Programmer for one or more trials, or as Lead/Program Programmer for a program or indication.
- We may coordinate the activities of internal and external programmers.
- We make statistical programming decisions and propose strategies at study, program, indication, or disease level.
- We may act as functional managers for associates by providing supervision and guidance on operational and functional expertise and processes.
- We build and maintain effective working relationships with cross-functional teams and summarize deliverables, timelines, scope, and resource plans.
- We review eCRFs and data structures, and ensure program-level standardization for effective pooling and efficient CRT production.
- We comply with company, department, and industry standards such as CDISC, and clarify additional programming requirements.
- We review, develop, and influence programming specifications as part of analysis plans, including program-level strategies.
- We provide and implement statistical programming solutions and share knowledge across teams.
- We act as programming experts in problem-solving situations.
- We ensure timely, high-quality development and validation of datasets and outputs for CSRs, regulatory submissions and interactions, safety reports, publications, post-marketing activities, and exploratory analyses.
- We understand and apply Git-based version control workflows to support collaborative, traceable, and reproducible programming.
- We are responsible for quality control and inspection readiness of all assigned statistical programming deliverables.
- We establish robust expectations and frameworks for reproducibility, documentation, and code quality across complex workflows.
- We maintain advanced knowledge of statistical programming languages and industry requirements, and drive adoption of reusable solutions and modern approaches across studies and programs.
