Staff Engineer

Salary: £41,000 - 81,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for someone with proven experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or in an equivalent senior individual contributor leadership role.
• We need a strong background in data platforms, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures, with experience shaping technical direction across teams and stakeholders.
• We are seeking solid expertise in technologies such as AWS, Terraform, Kafka/MSK, Airflow, Glue, or Spark, and in building scalable data solutions.
• We value experience with modern data ecosystems, including data lakes and lakehouse architectures, Iceberg or similar table formats, and batch and streaming processing.
• We look for knowledge of data quality, governance, cataloguing, and observability tools such as Datadog; experience with DBT or AI-assisted engineering practices is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• We will rely on you to define and evolve the technical vision, roadmap, and architecture of our Data Platform across data, platform, and infrastructure domains.
• We want you to establish engineering standards, best practices, and reusable patterns while partnering with Enterprise Architecture and influencing technical direction.
• You will drive engineering excellence by improving code quality, testing, observability, reliability, and operational practices.
• You will support end-to-end delivery by guiding teams through complex technical challenges, improving decision-making, and contributing to planning and risk management.
• You will mentor engineers, grow senior technical capabilities, and champion AI-assisted development and engineering automation.
